Doing Less

One of my favorite YouTubers — Casey Niestat has a tattoo on his arm that says “Do More”. I love watching his videos, his work ethic has always inspired me. The dude made a youtube vlog every day for about 500 days, while also doing his day to day work and creating a new startup from scratch. And these vlogs were high quality, far above everyone else.

Casey inspired me to work so hard, back in 2019. But just like Casey, I burnt out as well. He stopped the daily vlogs a few years back, and now works less and focuses more on his family. He once mentioned in an interview that he is now considering getting another tattoo — Do Less.

At this point in my life, I completely understand Casey’s decision. While 2019 was one of my best years in terms of things I was able to get done, I can safely say that 2020 came nowhere close to that. The “Do More” philosophy is just not sustainable because life is a marathon, not a race.

This is why for the remainder of 2020, I am focussing on getting all the clutter out of my life. 2021 for me will be about quality rather than quantity. I’ll try my best to do things that I enjoy doing, or that will benefit me, not just monetarily but emotionally as well.

Who knows if this strategy would work or not, maybe I will regret saying no to opportunities to make more money, maybe I’ll just be miserable with all the free time. I don’t know, but I still have to try it out, cause that is what life is all about.
