Day 342 / 366

It’s funny how OpenAI has become the exact thing they were against back when they started.

let me take you back to the 2010s. AI was just a cool term to throw around and AI features were just gimmicks that could pass for mildly interesting. However, few visionaries believed that AI could get way powerful, and have the potential to even destroy humanity.

These people were scared by the thought that only a few of the biggest companies in the world, like Google, and Meta would have access to this deadly weapon. They wanted that each and every person in this world should benefit from AI. This is how OpenAI was formed.

OpenAI was supposed to be a non-profit organisation. They even made the first few of their models Open Source. But since ChatGPT got big, they slowly started focusing more on revenue.

Cut to a few days ago, when they announced their new model o1, and also the ChatGPT Pro subscription, for 200$ per month!

That would be over 16,000 Rs per month. How would anyone be able to enjoy the benefits of their research and development now? OpenAI has failed in its mission of keeping AI open. The big companies still control AI, and OpenAI is now just another one of them.
