Building back some good habits

Day 154 / 366

I cannot emphasize how badly I need to get my shit together now. You see, half a year ago my life was close to perfect. I was eating an ultra-healthy diet. I was working out, gaining muscle weight. I was always full of energy. But ever since then, through reasons out of my control, I have become an indisciplined idiot.

Take this weekend for example. I had so much I wanted to do and yet I slept through most of it. And here I am trying to write today's blog with just 20 minutes left. I am better than this, at least I know that I was better than this.

I met an old friend from college today and he was talking about how he quit smoking last year, and how his life has been so much better because of it. Which made me think that I should stop being so soft on myself and put in the required effort to quit the habits that are holding me back. And the best way to quit bad habits is to build some good ones.

My approach to building a good habit is simple.

  • Whatever you do, you have to do it daily. Consistency is key
  • Always start with small steps. A habit should be easy to maintain, or else you will give up quite quickly.

So starting tomorrow I will start making some changes. Firstly, the blog will shift to the morning. I will get it done before I have to leave for the office so that each day does not end with a stressful writing session like this one. Secondly, no more junk food.

If these good habits stick, I will start adding some more slowly. Here’s to another attempt to get my life back on track.
