Lately, I’ve been re-reading the book ‘The Magic of Thinking Big’. I’ve had the book since I was in high school, and to this day I always pick up something new every time I read it. This time around it’s this little piece of wisdom -

Big people do not laugh at big ideas

Suppose you go up to one of your “average” co-workers and say — “Someday, I’ll be the Vice President of this company.”, he would surely hit you with “Yeah, right!”. He would laugh, as he would think that surely you must be joking.

But what if you said that to the President of your company. One thing’s for sure, he won’t laugh. He believes its completely possible, cause he has achieved the same feat that you are dreaming of.

Tell an average person that you are going to leave your safe job to start your own business, and he would think you are nuts. Tell the same to the CEO of a startup, and he would not only believe you but encourage you to follow your dreams.

We all dreamt big when we were kids. Everyone wanted to be an astronaut, a Pilot, or a movie Star. Yet as we grew up, we were surrounded by more and more of these “average” people, who told us it’s stupid to dream big and laughed at those who tried to pursue these dreams.

Remember, people who tell you it cannot be done almost always are unsuccessful people, are strictly average or mediocre at best in terms of accomplishments.

So when seeking advice regarding your big ideas, try to avoid the “average” people. There will always be people telling you that you can’t do it. Take that as a challenge and prove them wrong!
