Biden wins 2020

I just heard the news that Joe Biden is now projected to become the next Prime Minister of the United States of America. This is huge news for more than one reason.

When Trump ran for president in 2016, no one believed he would win. The world back then was quite left-leaning, and his opponent was Hilary Clinton, a woman. She was the perfect candidate for the circumstances, which was reflected in the polls as well, which all favored her to win by a huge margin.

This is why the Trump win came as a shock. Some pundits attributed this to the Slient Majority — People who secretly hated how liberal America had gotten, but were not too vocal about their opinions.

There were several lawsuits against Trump, several attempts to impeach him. Yet, he still prevailed. The Silent Majority was not so silent anymore. People believed it would be hard to stop him from getting re-elected and to add to that, they thought Biden wasn’t a strong enough candidate to put up against him. Moreover, it is quite rare for a president to not be re-elected for a second term.

And yet, Biden won. Not only that, he broke the record for the most votes received by any presidential candidate.

Now I don’t know if Biden is the right candidate or not. I don’t even think it affects my life that much. To me, American politics are just like a reality show, and after observing it from a distance for the past 4 years, I can surely say that this is a surprising outcome. I guess we’ll just have to wait and watch how the next season turns out.
