Be the change you want to see in the world
Day 94 / 364
There’s a projector that’s projecting a movie on the wall. There’s a small speck of dust on the lens of the projector. This gets projected on the wall as a big ugly spot.
The spot irritates you. You try to get rid of it by wiping the wall. The spot still stays. You switch to a different movie. The spot’s still there. You curse at the screen.
All this while you are oblivious to the fact that it’s the lens that needs cleaning.
Every day as we go about our lives, we don’t observe the world subjectively. We project ourselves onto everything that we come across. And we are bound to encounter stuff that upsets us.
In those cases, it’s easy to put the blame external to ourselves. And we try to change our surroundings trying to make things better. We change our jobs, our relationships, our house, and what not. Yet we find ourselves upset again, about the same old problems.
We need to look within ourselves to find the solutions to our problems. We have no controls over our surroundings. But we can change how we react to them.
