Are we eating too much salt?
In the last blog I looked into toxic hunger, and why people need to start eating healthy. So today I started doing some research as to how someone can actually achieve that. Something that I came across a lot was cutting down on salt, which was a bug surprise for me. I know that sugar’s bad for you, but is salt just as harmful?
Why is salt bad?
Salt has sodium, and too much sodium isn’t good for us. Studies has shown that it’s linked with high blood pressure and that it increases the chances of strokes and heart deseases.
So should I stop eating salt?
If you are under the age of 50, and you don’t have problems with high blood pressure then you are probably fine. People tend to get more sensitive to sodium with age.
But even with that in mind, the answer will not be to stop putting salt in your food. More than 75% of our sodium intake comes from processed foods. So if you cut down on them you should be able to avoid most problems without sacrificing on the common salt that you put in your food.
