Day 251 / 365

How long do you think you can survive without food and water. A couple of hours maybe? My mom does is every year for a whole day for celebrating “Teej”, which I had always found unbelievable. But what would you reckon would be the limit for a human body to go without any food or liquids? While we don’t have any way to know for sure, there is a record in the Guinness Book of world records for this category, and the story is quite interesting.

Andreas Mihavecz was a passenger in a car crash on April 1, 1979. He was taken into police custody by three policemen for further questioning. Here’s where the trouble began. All the three policemen kind of forgot about Andreas and thought he was already freed. No one went to check on him or to give him anything to eat or drink.

His mother contacted them continuously to ask about him, but they ignored her pleas. To make things worse, his prison was in the basement, which meant that no one could hear his screams and cries for help.

He was in the cell for 18 days, without any food or drink. Another officer working their discovered him on accident when he noticed the stench coming from the basement. He had lost almost 25 kgs and needed several months to regain his health after that.

This post is part of my 365 Day Project for 2019. Read about it here
