An easy new year resolution
Day 364 / 365
We have less than 30 hours left for the year, and Before we go into 2020, I have already started looking for some new resolutions. I know that most people these days are not so keen about new year resolutions. It has a stigma attached to it, no one believes that it is possible to ever keep their new year resolutions. So they don’t even try.
But I don’t think they are all bad. I must have written about this a thousand times this year, but now is the time that this fact really matters — Real progress comes only through constant repetitions of small habits.
So in that spirit, I would like to suggest an easy new year resolution which I believe anyone can follow.
Writing down 3 things each day that you are happy about
I read about this in the book “The Happiness Advantage”. Our brains have now become wired to just seek out negatives in life. But it is possible to rewire them, but forcing yourself to come up with something good about your day at the end of each day. It’s as simple as that, just take out 5 mins each day and write 3 things that went well for you or those that made you happy. It doesn’t have to be profound, it could even be something like “My coffee tasted great this morning!”
While this might seem forced and fake in the beginning, it would soon become second nature for you. Fake it till you make it, right?
If you do this, I can promise that the 2021 version of you would have a more positive outlook towards life. When faced with difficult situations, he would involuntarily choose to focus on the good parts and look for solutions, not just complain about it and do nothing
