Day 211 / 366

This year, most of my friends and I are going to turn 30, which is really scary. It’s hard to describe to a young person what it feels like to grow old. When you are young, you dream big. And every dream seems achievable. All the idols you see, be it actors or athletes are older than you. So you have something to aspire to, you know that you have time to maybe someday be as successful as them.

And then you sometimes come across stories like this, a 58-year-old making her debut at the Olympics —

This blew me away. I mean, I had heard stories about singers, artists, and filmmakers doing their best stuff when they were really old. But sports are so physical, which makes it even more tough to do when you are this old. Yet, this woman, even after 20 years of taking a break, worked hard again for 4 years and fulfilled her dream of becoming an Olympian.

And so, I found a new idol now. Whenever I feel like I am getting old, I will remind myself that I could also take 20 years off and still achieve my dreams later. No one said that you have to be successful by the time you are 30. There is still lots of life left to live.
