A bit going on
Day 50 / 365
If you’re a cricket fan, you might have heard of “The Grade Cricketer”. The Grade Cricketer (TGC) is a hilarious and irreverent Twitter account, podcast, and Youtube Channel that pokes fun at the world of cricket. And today I had the pleasure of seeing them live.
You would wonder why Indians would be interested in 2 blokes from Australia who played grade cricket (Their version of Ranjhi), and to answer that I would have to take you back 2 years, to Jan 20, 2021, to be precise. The venue was Gabba, India defeated Australia at their home to win one of the best-ever Test Series. And Ian Higgens and Sam Perry from TGC recorded their reaction minutes after Australia’s loss, which went Viral.
This is when I started following them as well. They just had around 30k subscribers back then, but their Indian Audience started growing. Today, they have 175k subs, they have sponsorship from CRED and they are touring India, doing live shows across 6 cities.
The best thing about them is that, unlike other English YouTubers who want to get an Indian Audience, they don’t pander a lot to Indians. Even after their success, they have managed to keep their content as it always was.
If you’re a cricket fan looking for a good laugh, or if you’ve ever played club cricket yourself, then The Grade Cricketer is definitely worth checking out.
