Day 71 / 366

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Whether you are in the final round of a job interview or having some tough discussions with your significant other, this question is bound to come up. And I don’t think we ever honestly answer it. It’s too easy to make up a good answer for this question since 5 years is too long for us to comprehend.

We always think this “5 years from now” will never come. At least that is what I used to think. A few days back I was looking up the original rent agreement of the flat that I currently live in, and I saw that my age in it was 25. I will turn 30 this year, and this little incident made me realize that 5 years have gone by so quickly.

If you had asked me at 25 where I see myself in 5 years, the answer would have surely not been where I am now. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I don’t know to be honest with you. A lot of things didn’t go the way I planned. And COVID was part of these 5 years as well! ( I still believe that those years should be wiped off of history, and our ages should be subtracted by 2, but no one agrees with me)

When we were kids we looked at life in chunks of 1 year. Each year meant a new class, new books, new summer vacations, and new exams. I think I have reached an age now where I am seeing life in 5-year chunks now. And all I want is to be a bit more mindful in this next chunk.

5 years from now, no matter where I am, I want to be able to look back fondly over the years gone by.
